Lyn Stanley at Vitellos’ Review – Scott Yanow

Scott Yanow had a column published in the December 2014 issue of Los Angeles Jazz Scene:

Lyn Stanley did not begin singing until a few years ago but she has definitely made up for lost time. At Vitello’s she celebrated the release of her newest recording Potions with a fine tribute to the songs of the 1950s. Joined by pianist Mike Lang, bassist Mike Valerio, drummer Joe La Barbera and Terry Harrington on reeds, Ms. Stanley performed some of her favorite tunes from the era. The arrangements were excellent although I wish that there were longer solos from Harrington (who was playing great) and Lang. Highlights included “Lullaby Of Birdland,” a pretty version of “In The Still Of The Night,” a saucy “After The Lights Go Down Low,” a very good interpretation of “Misty” (the song perfectly fit the singer’s voice) and “Just Friends.” Throughout the night, Lyn Stanley’s quietly expressive vocals which were full of inner passion were a joy to hear.
